(I would have first posted in the forum, but forum registration seems to be broken.... I tried with 3 different emails and never received anything back)
If I understand correctly, unique visitors must be less than or equal to the total number of visitors.
In October, I had 140 visits, 626 of which were unique. These numbers do not make sense.
I just started using piwik the end of September, and September has 11 visits, 6 of which are unique. This doesn't seem unreasonable.
However, if I look at the whole year (which for me includes only September and October, I have 151 visits, 739 of which are unique. The 151 make sense (140+11), however the number of unique visitors should be less than or equal to the sum of the two months (626+6). It is significantly bigger.
It seems that the weekly, monthly, yearly summarization of unique visitors is incorrect.
I'm using version 0.4.5.

The data was generated by real traffic. The monitored web site was generated by typolight and I am using the typolight plugin for piwik.
Looking at piwik_log_visit, I see a huge amount of entries on October 23/24 that don't make sense. If I look Visits wigit for those days or that week, they aren't counted. However, they appear to be counted for the Month.
Hmmmm.... I looked the visit script generator and the October 23/24 data appears to have come from that. The data suspiciously matches /piwik/misc/generateVisitsData/Referers.php. I am sure I didn't run it intentionally, but maybe I accidentally clicked on it.
Still, why does the data only show up partially? I.e. It is counted in unique visits, but not in total visits? Any way to get rid of the data?
you can't get rid of the data hence why we added a big red warning in newer versions. It could appear in your weekly/monthly report and not in your daily reports in the use case where you:
archived the daily reports
run the visit generator
daily reports are not archived again, but when you archive weekly/monthly they will include the fake visits.
Reinstall Piwik or create a new website to start from fresh stats.
