Currently, "effectiveTLDs.inc.php" is packaged in a .tgz archive and regenerated when the public version is updated:

*!http://mxr.mozilla.org/mozilla-central/source/netwerk/dns/src/effective_tld_names.dat

In contrast, the dev version is updated more frequently:

*!http://mxr.mozilla.org/mozilla/source/netwerk/dns/src/effective_tld_names.dat

Proposal:

  • add manual (or automated) update check for a newer version of effective_tld_names.dat
  • download effective_tld_names.dat from mxr.mozilla.org
  • generate effectiveTLDs.inc.php from effective_tld_names.dat
