Include Piwik in the popular Fantastico scripting service. This will provide webmasters with an easy and quick way to install and deploy a Web Analytics solution on their self hosted sites.

Netenberg doesn't appear to offer any Fantastico packaging info to devs. Rather, it appears users submit script requests for new/updated packages. There's also a statement that beta and unreleased packages aren't being considered.

@vipsoft,

Learning as I go here...

From what I have read so far it is my understanding that having an install script for Piwik included in Fantastico needs to go via the Hosting company and not the Fantastico developer ([http://www.netenberg.com/]). This changes how we approach this. Probably what we need to do is identify popular hosting companies (eg: Bluehost) and approach them to have Piwik auto installs included. In the case of Bluehost - although they provide Fantastico de Luxe to customers - SimpleScripts is their install/scripting application of choice.

Many hosting companies run with Fantastico and my guess is that once we have Piwik included with one hosting company that this work could be replicated to other hosting companies using Fantastico.

So... I think we need to change our tune here and perhaps create tickets by hosting service. If people generally agree with this I will modify Trac tickets to reflect this change.

I think we should contact Netenberg to clear the confusion because that's contrary to my understanding that Netenberg manages the packaging and installation scripts in the Fantastico library.

BTW Drupal's experience with Fantastico hasn't been positive:

@vipsoft,

Had a browse through Fantastico's forum ([http://www.netenberg.com/forum/])
Specifically this topic: [http://www.netenberg.com/forum/index.php?topic=1252.0]
Here's an extract:
NOTE: We are not planning to add any new scripts to Fantastico v2. However, when Fantastico v3 is released it will allow script authors and web hosts to offer scripts for installation via Fantastico. Feel free to request scripts here, though because the list can be used by hosts and script authors to know which scripts people have been interested in.

The above post is dated 2004. So far I have found nothing to suggest that Fantastico includes new scripts in its packaging. I will contact the author to obtain confirmation.

I have logged a topic on the Netenberg Forum and posted this question:[http://www.netenberg.com/forum/index.php?topic=7273.0]
Will report back as soon as I get a response.

Response from Netenberg received as follows:

We're not currently adding new scripts to Fantastico v2. However, you can submit a request on the thread you mentioned, and we will add it to the list for possible future inclusion in v3.

The thread mentioned is:

Apparently V3 has been 5 years in the waiting...
[http://www.netenberg.com/forum/index.php?topic=7097.0]

We might also like to investigate other popular auto installers:
[http://www.softaculous.com/]
[http://www.installatron.com/]

SimpleScripts is already being investigated in ticket #1160

if you fill the request for v3, you can then close the ticket as won't fix as it seems we don't have the power to make this happen.

As suggested - request for Piwik inclusion into Fanatstico completed on Netenberg's forum at:
[http://www.netenberg.com/forum/index.php?topic=1252.msg31966#msg31966]

Re the inclusion of Piwik in other auto installs scripts I will now focus on #1138 and #1160.
