Should Unique Visitors be renamed Unique Browsers to comply with IAB / ABCi / ABCe standards?

comScore's Digital Analytix (formerly Sitestat, by Nedstat) is the first web analytics packageto comply with these standards. Can Piwik follow?

Press Release by comScore providing background information:
http://blog.comscore.com/2011/03/digital_analytix_iab_abce.html

WAA definition of the metric:

"The number of inferred individual people (filtered for spiders and robots), within a designated reporting timeframe, with activity consisting of one or more visits to a site. Each individual is counted only once in the unique visitor measure for the reporting period The deletion of cookies, whether 1st party or 3rd party, will cause unique visitors to be inflated over the actual number of people visiting a site."

This sounds reasonnable, however, in Piwik, it is possible to track more than "unique browsers". When you use the Tracking API, many users are tracking unique visitors based on their IPs (and other attributes used in the heuristic ).

In fact I am also working on a new feature that will also to track visitors based on the first party ID Cookie, after the fact, via the Tracking API (see the Paypal use case) #2222

I also vote for wontfix because Piwik has Browser and Browser Family reports, and the WAA defines "Unique Visitor" as:
This metric is analogous to the Unique Browser metric used in the advertising industry. However, because the word Browser in a web analytics tool typically refers to a program visitors use to access a website (e.g. Internet Explorer or FireFox), the Unique Visitor designation is used to reduce confusion.

re: standards. Neither the IAB guidelines or ABC/JICWEBS definitions represent internationally recognized standards. To "comply with these standards" is stretching the truth -- it's adspeak to cater to the advertising industry which runs the IAB and ABC.
