Hi,

I noticed a problem using Piwik 2.1 (I haven't use previous versions) : the actions count is almost the same as Xiti and Google Analytics, but visitors an visits are more than 7 times lower than Xiti and GA.

And for the time on site, Piwik indicates an average of 27 minutes whereas Xiti and GA are about 12 minutes.

Here are the stats for 26/03/2014 :

    visits      visitors      page view

piwik 15 186 12 361 1 781 932
Xiti 113 851 87 131 1 809 287
GA 131 904 102 438 1 842 487

I checked in database and these counts are the same than in piwik_log_link_visit_action and piwik_log_visit, so I think there might be a problem during recording and not during archiving.

It seems I'm not the only Piwik user who faces this problem as we can see in this thread :

Can you please try to apply this setting: http://piwik.org/faq/how-to/faq_19/

After waiting 2-3 days, do you see better accuracy in visit count?

Thank you for these infomations.

I realised that when using Piwik behind AWS ELB load balancer, it was in fact behind a proxy.

I added your settings and also the following setting :

proxy_client_headers[] = HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR

Now Piwik is logging the correct remote ip address instead of the gateway.

I'll see in a few days if my visits are back to a normal count.
