German translation bugs

I'm not sure if the German translators have read what they have written there, but they should read all again...

For e.g. the doc link to manual update page (sorry I cannot remember this word - I have never heard it before.. Something that should be "Dokumentation", but was "Dokumentueration" oder something like this.

For "Sites" we should write "Websites" not "Webseiten".

And sometimes using "der, die, das" would also be great and make sentences more smooth.

There are much more bugs, but I cannot remember them all...

Just for the record: "Websites" is not German. While "Webseiten" is debatable (there might be other translations, e.g. "Internetseiten"), it feels more German than "Websites". So please do not change that term.

If there are regional differences, let Noah know. I'm fairly certain we can accommodate it. As an example, we already have lang/zh-cn and lang/zh-tw.

vipsoft, this is not really a regional difference. I'm from the north of Germany for example and I agree with mic here. There are a lot of English terms, that are used in German language, especially in the field of information technology (cf.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Denglisch).

In this case there's the English word "web site". Hass is of course right. "Webseite" might be translated as "web page". But as you can see from the link to a popular German/English dictionary I posted above, it is often used as a translation of "web site", too. What does this mean? It's not wrong to use the term. There might be other, better translations, but "Webseite" is generally ok.

Other examples like this in Piwik are: Dashboard, Widget, API, Login, Upgrade... You can translate these terms. Or not. It doesn't matter much.

This have nothing to do with regional differences... We also translate Site to Website in Drupal for CH and AT.

@Mic - you may have not read the leo.org site. This proves that "Webseite" means a "web page" - and a web page is a single "page" of a site - it doesn't mean the whole site. If "Site" is used in context of web application it means "web site". We translate this in Drupal to "Website" in German for years... and if something is in the Drupal dictionary you can trust us - this have been a long discussion or approved by many many people. It wouldn't be wrong to take a look how other projects translate words... take a look to Wordpress, Typo3 and other systems.

API = not translatable

Widget = somtimes become "Steuerelement, but not here - also not translatable here and has been germanized... we do not have a word for Widget in German.

Dashboard = this is really bad... I have no translation for this now, but it should become German.

@hass: Yes, there are translations. But you could also use the English term. It's very similar to our website/Webseite/Internetseite/Homepage discussion above ;). Of course I forgot to mention the classic: Plugin.

As for Dashboard: I agree this is really a problem. I'd translate it as "Übersicht" or something like that. But I'm sure some people would be uneasy about it, especially Mac users (there's a Dashboard in OS/X, so most German Mac users will be familiar with the term, I guess).

I think I do not read correctly. It seems like I need to introduce myself.

I have 3 years Drupal Core and Module translation experience. I'm ty guy who made Drupal 5 100% complete and translated the most of Drupal 6. I'm one of the if not the most active German translator for Drupal over all. I'm working on many many modules as developer and provide many translation fixes for Drupal core and modules. Before you write such stupid sentences you should make sure what you are writing about!

Your answer sounds more stupid than the sentence before. I have not said I'm the "most valuable person on earth", but you said I'm stupid and translate wrong.

Only as a note - being a member of a joomla translation team doesn't prove anyone to be a good translator and don't tell us anything about how many strings and hours per day are contributed per month or not, and if others - think strings should better be changed or not, and how high the revoke quote is for translation suggestions.

The current German translation of Piwik contains many glitches, this is pretty save if you click through and not personal opinion.

Please be civil. Our common goal is to improve Piwik. Our translations are provided by volunteers like yourselves, and yes, sometimes more than one translator contributes to a translation.

Please contact Noah at translations (at) piwik.org. Noah coordinates the translation teams and does not use trac/svn for that.
